So far, June has been a great month at the Cinematheque! We kicked off with our Film Lover's Campaign and Membership Drive and the response has been fantastic - many thanks to our donors to date. We are trying to sell 500 of the $2 Film Lover Donor Cards, so please pop down, support the campaign and show your love.
Speaking of love, there was plenty of it at our Open House on June 12th. Even with the sunny weather, over 200 people attended and took in live music, a poster auction and enjoyed free bags of popcorn and bottles of Whistler Water. A great vibe could be felt throughout the building with people touring the library, archive and projection booth. One of our most unique offerings was the chance for patrons to put themselves into a scene from Casablanca with our Education Department's green screen activity. I was truly impressed with all the "actors" that gave it a shot. The event ended with a free screening of Casablanca in 35mm hosted by CTV's The Movie Guy, Jim Gordon. Interestingly, he asked how many people were here to see Casablanca for the first time and over half of the audience put up their hands! So glad we were able to share this classic with so many newbies. A HUGE thanks to all who came out and the volunteers and staff who made it happen.
Also this month, we received our new HDCAM Deck! This will allow us to screen films in HDCAM format - giving audiences a true HD experience. This equipment is a great addition to our projection booth and will certainly attract attention from our rental clients. Watch for your chance to view Metropolis and Cannibal Girls in HD this summer!
As a special thanks for reading the blog, use coupon code BLOG to unlock a $2 discount on advance tickets to Metropolis on July 1st at 3:45pm. See link here: http://www.cinematheque.bc.ca/metropolis-new-restoration
Thanks for reading and see you at the theatre!
Best,
Amber
