Breathless Days 1959-1960: Breathless and Psycho

MAY 2-3

This program of two breathtaking, groundbreaking films from the 1959/60 period is presented in conjunction with “Breathless Days 1959-1960: A Chronotropic Experiment,” an art exhibition running April 16-June 2, 2010, at the Morris and Helen Belkin Art Gallery at UBC, and “Breathless Days: 1959-1960,” a conference being held May 1-2 + 7, 2010, hosted by the Department of Art History, Visual Art and Theory, UBC.

Both the conference and art exhibition explore how the artists, filmmakers, writers, and thinkers of 1959 and 1960 grappled with their rapidly changing world — and were left breathless by their efforts. The breathless days of that historical moment, still understudied, resonate in our own rapidly changing world...
