Cine Chile 2008: A Festival of Contemporary Chilean Cinema

ALL FILMS VANCOUVER PREMIERES!

DEC 12-21  Pacific Cinémathèque is pleased to join with members of Vancouver’s Chilean community in presenting Cine Chile 2008, a special festival of new and recent films from Chile. Connoisseurs of world cinema well know that Chile has long been home to one of the most vibrant film cultures in Latin America; its impressive accomplishments have been showcased in several Pacific Cinémathèque exhibitions over the years. Lately, Chilean cinema has been enjoying an exciting resurgence, with a new generation of brash young filmmakers creating bold works that have been successful with audiences at home and admired by critics and filmgoers abroad. The work of these emerging artists was the focus of our first Cine Chile event in 2006. We continue this tradition with Cine Chile 2008, offering up nine contemporary Chilean features and one documentary. Most are the work of first-, second-, or third-time directors. None have been screened in Vancouver before.

SPECIAL GUEST · DECEMBER 19, 20 & 21  │ We are very pleased to welcome, as Cine Chile 2008’s special guest, the popular actor, screenwriter and filmmaker Boris Quercia. Mr. Quercia is the director, writer and star of two of the festival’s films, the hit comedies Sex With Love and The King of Idiots, and writer and star of a third, the new science-fiction satire Chile Puede

CINE CHILE PASSES │ Festival passes will be sold at the Pacific Cinémathèque Box Office on December 12 + 13, and are also available by contacting Cine Chile at director@cinechile.ca or 778.883.7105.

Acknowledgements: For their instrumental role in making this exhibition possible, Pacific Cinémathèque is grateful to Waldo Briño; the Consulate General of Chile (Vancouver); and Ministerio de Relaciones Exteriores, Dirección de Asuntos Culturales, Republic of Chile.
