From Ecstasy to Rapture: 50 Years of the Other Spanish Cinema

JAN 26, FEB 2+9

The rich, remarkable history of Spanish experimental filmmaking is the subject of this unprecedented touring exhibition, spotlighting the treasures of an alternative national cinema that is not only little-known internationally, but also not well known within Spain’s own borders. Made up of carefully restored prints and preservation digital transfers, comprised of six eye-popping, ecstatically beautiful programs organized by theme and technique, and including two feature-length cult classics, From Ecstasy to Rapture reveals an extraordinary avant-garde tradition that extends far beyond the revered, much- celebrated achievements of Buñuel and Dalí.

Curated by Antoni Pinent and Andrés Hispano for the Contemporary Cultural Centre of Barcelona. Program notes by CCCB or adapted from CCCB texts. Special thanks to Gloria Vilches and Sol Polo Guardia of the CCCB for making this Vancouver presentation possible.
